Dietitian in San Antonio, TX | Basic Habits

My practice was never meant to stay confined to one corner of Texas, and San Antonio families are proof of that. I work virtually with women managing diabetes, PCOS, and prediabetes across the state, building plans that respect both their labs and their culture. Basic Habits meets you exactly where you are, screen and all.

San Antonio sprawls across Bexar County with an identity as layered as its neighborhoods, from the River Walk winding through downtown to the creative energy of the Pearl District and the historic charm of Southtown. UTSA keeps a constant flow of students moving through the city, while the presence of Joint Base San Antonio shapes daily rhythms for countless military families. It's one of the most bicultural cities in the country, and that history runs straight through its food.

Clients here often grew up straddling two languages and two food traditions, and generic nutrition advice rarely knows what to do with either. A diagnosis on top of that mix tends to feel isolating, like no plan was ever built with your actual background in mind. This practice was built specifically to hold that complexity instead of flattening it.

Here is how the work unfolds.

Step 1
Bicultural doesn't mean complicated here, it means the plan finally reflects both sides of how you actually eat.
Step 2
The first step is a conversation about your background, your labs, and your goals, all held together instead of separated out.
Step 3
From there, sessions continue as a virtual rhythm, adjusting your plan as your numbers and your life evolve.

Women here often feel like nutrition advice only ever addresses one half of their cultural background at a time. What shifts is the relief of a plan that finally holds both traditions together instead of picking one. We build your plan around your labs and your full bicultural table, meeting entirely online.

Parents here often worry that addressing a child's eating means abandoning one side of their family's food traditions. That worry tends to ease as both traditions find a place in the plan. We build around meals from your whole household's background, not a narrowed down version.

Clients here often feel like diabetes advice online only addresses one culture's typical plate, not their own bicultural one. That disconnect tends to close once the plan reflects your full food background. We build your plan from your labs, holding both sides of your table at once.

Clients here often feel torn between two sets of dietary advice that never quite fit their actual meals. That tension tends to ease once pairing and timing reflect your real, blended table. We adjust your meals with both traditions in mind, not just one.

Women managing PCOS here often feel like generic advice ignores half of what their family actually cooks. That gap tends to close once the plan reflects your entire cultural background. We track your cycle and cravings while honoring both sides of your table.

Clients preparing to conceive here often feel like fertility advice assumes one culture's typical diet, not theirs. That mismatch tends to resolve once your plan reflects your full background. We build a fertility foundation that holds both traditions at once.

Expecting moms here often receive a gestational diabetes handout that reflects neither side of their actual table. That disconnect eases once the plan is built around your real, bicultural meals. We build your plan from your readings and your full food background, alongside your OBGYN.

New moms here often feel pulled between two sets of postpartum food traditions and general online advice. That pull tends to ease once the plan reflects your family's actual customs. We build a gradual plan around your feeding routine and your full cultural background.

Families here often worry that addressing a child's weight means giving up one side of their bicultural traditions. That worry tends to ease once both traditions stay part of the plan. We look at your whole household's routine, honoring your full food background.

Men here often feel like weight loss advice ignores one entire half of what they actually grew up eating. That gap tends to close once the plan reflects your full background. We build sustainable structure around your schedule and your bicultural table.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is it worth seeing a dietitian for weight loss?

Yes, especially if you've tried plans on your own and had them fall apart. A dietitian builds a plan around your actual labs, schedule, and culture instead of a generic template, which is usually the missing piece.

  • Can a dietitian help me to lose weight?

Yes. We focus on sustainable structure instead of restriction, so the weight loss you see is the kind that actually stays off, because the habits behind it fit your real life.

  • Can a dietitian prescribe Ozempic?

No, medications like Ozempic are prescribed by your physician. What I can do is help you understand how your medication works alongside your nutrition, so you feel informed instead of anxious about it.

  • What should you not say to a dietitian?

Honestly, there isn't anything you can't say here. This is a judgment free space, and the more honest you are about your habits, your fears, and your real schedule, the better your plan will actually fit.

  • What is the 30 30 30 rule for weight loss?

It's a trending rule about protein and morning movement, and like most trends, it can work for some people and not others. We'll figure out together what actually fits your body and your day instead of chasing every new rule online.

  • Does my insurance cover this?

Most of my clients already have insurance that covers this care. We'll help you check your coverage before your first session, so cost is never a surprise.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens, and we ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel a session. (24-hour notice or a $30 no-show fee)

  • Do you accept insurance, and how do I check my coverage?

Most of my clients already have insurance that covers this care. Before your first visit, we'll help you check your specific plan's coverage so you know exactly what to expect, with no surprise bill.
